A
Short History In the
early 1970's Filipino seamen were at the mercy of
unscrupulous recruiters who charged exorbitant fees for
job placements. Jobs were for sale to the highest
bidder. In February 1973 a group of ship captains and
chief engineers established Pacific Seamen Services,
Inc. with a policy that no fees will be collected from
applicants and hiring will be based solely on the basis
of qualification.
This
promoted the hiring of only qualified seafarers and
discouraged the hiring of undesirable applicants. The
international shipping industry then came to recognize
the desirability of employing Filipino
seamen.
The
principle of "Quality Service Before Profit" was also
adopted.
All
these policies have been followed consistently up to the
present.
The
Philippine Overseas Employment Adminstration (POEA) is
the government entity overseeing the employment of all
Filipino workers overseas.
In
1984 and again in 1985 and then again in 1991, PSSI was
awarded recognition by the POEA for its consistent
quality performance in the recruitment and deployment of
seafarers. In 1992, PSSI was inducted into the POEA
Hall of Fame
In
September of 1999, The Management System of PSSI was
certified by ABS to be in full compliance with the
requirements of ISO 9002; 1994 and issued Certificate
No. 32172 with accreditation of ANSI*RAB and RvA. In
October 2002, ABS certified the QMS of PSSI as fully in
compliance the requirements of ISO 9001: 2000.
